Obituary for Rhoda Santos

Rhoda  Santos
Piscataway, NJ – Rhoda D. (Dacanay) Santos, 75, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Born in Abra, Philippines, Rhoda immigrated to the US in 1967. She lived in New York before moving to Union and Warren where she raised her family. Rhoda then settled in Piscataway in the 2000’s.

She was a self-employed C.P.A and worked out of her home. She was very active with various organizations, such as Couples for Christ For Family and Life (CFCFFL) since 1995 and was the NJ Area coordinator for Handmaids for Family and Life (HFL). She was also the past president of the NJ Chapter of the University of Philippines Alumni Association. In addition, she was an officer and performer with the University of the Philippines Alumni and Friends Rondalla ensemble.

Predeceased by her father Rufo Dacanay, Sr., sister Yolanda and brother Bonifacio, Rhoda is survived by her husband Jose with whom she would have celebrated 49 years together in August. She also leaves behind her three sons: Jason and wife Lisa of River Edge, Joel and wife Gwyn of Hillsborough, and Jonathan and wife Valerie of Sudbury, MA. Rhoda will be deeply missed by five grandchildren: Jillian, Luke, Joel, Jr., Jazmyn, Jovie and one on the way, as well as mother Arcadia Dacanay and six siblings: Rainelda Menor, Sister Digna Dacanay, RSCJ, Rufo Dacanay, Jr., Diane Valencia, Renato Dacanay and Camille Garcia.

Visitation will take place at the South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 4pm until 9pm.

Funeral mass will begin at 9:30 am on Friday, May 18, at St. Matthew the Apostle RC Church, 81 Seymour Avenue, Edison, NJ. Prayers will follow in the cremation chapel of Rosehill Cemetery located in Linden, NJ.
