
Obituary of Henry Rauer, Jr.
Henry “Hank” Rauer, 83, of South Plainfield, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
Born in Plainfield, Hank was a lifelong resident of South Plainfield. In 1959, he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving with the 82nd Airborne Division until his honorable discharge in 1965.
Hank went on to work for the United States Postal Service in Berkeley Heights for many years before his retirement. Following his postal career, he dedicated nearly 25 years as President of the New Jersey Area Local of the American Postal Workers Union, where he was a strong advocate for his fellow workers.
A proud veteran, Hank was a member of the Peapack-Gladstone American Legion. He and his wife, Mary Ann, were longtime volunteers at the South Plainfield VFW Post 6763, where they contributed their time and energy to countless community events.
In his free time, Hank found joy in the outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, he cherished the quiet moments spent in nature.
He is predeceased by his sister, Patricia Ann LaCompte.
Surviving are his wife May Ann; children, Pamela Bolivar and Kenneth Rauer both of Piscataway; brother, Carl Rauer of FL.; grandchildren, Kevin and Quinn and great grandchild, Aurora, Luciano and Jaxon.
A visitation will be held at the McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 from 5 PM to 7 PM.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, beginning at 6:30 PM.
Cremation Services will be held privately.
