Obituary of Emilia R. Stahura

Emilia R. Stahura South Plainfield - Emilia (Rydarowski) Stahura, 90, died on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Born at home in Plainfield, Emilia was raised and resided in Plainfield until she and her late husband, Thaddeus, moved to South Plainfield in 1956. She graduated from Plainfield High School in 1937 and began working for the City of Plainfield the next year. In 1950, she left her job to raise her four daughters. In 1970, she returned to work for the City of Plainfield, finally retiring in 1987. The last ten years she served as the Plainfield City Clerk and was a member of the Municipal Clerks Association. While raising her children, Emilia was active in the South Plainfield PTA. She was also a founding board member of the South Plainfield Adult School. She was also a former member of the Rosary Altar Society at St. Stanislaus Kostka Roman Catholic Church. After retiring, Emilia enjoyed reading, watching the news and movies, and doing crossword puzzles. But, above all, Emilia enjoyed family gatherings with her children and grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Thaddeus, her son in law, James Tierney, brothers and sisters in law, Ted and Agnes Rydarowski, Maureen Rydarowski, Stella and Louis Kubiak, and Helen Blaszak. Surviving are her four daughters; Donna Tierney, Karen Stahura, Amy Rastelli and her husband, Kenneth and Janice O'Neill and her husband, Dennis. Her brother, Julian Rydarowski, seven grandchildren; Amanda Hood and her husband, Gregory, Trevor Rastelli, Bradford and Alexander Tierney, and Christopher, Connor and Meredith O'Neill. Her brothers in law; Theodore Blaszak, Stanley Stahura and his wife, Dorothy, and Edwin Stahura and his wife, Donna. Funeral services will begin Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, New Jersey 07080, followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass in St. Helena's RC Church, 950 Grove Avenue, Edison, New Jersey. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield. Family and friends may attend the visitation hours on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 8:30 PM.
