Obituary of Stephen J. Benak

Stephen J. Benak, 58, died on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at home. Born in Newark, Stephen had resided in South Plainfield for most of his life. Steve was the owner and operator of the former Steve Benak Construction Co. in South Plainfield. A passionate outdoorsman, Steve was an avid hunter, fresh and saltwater fisherman and enjoyed spending time at the beach with his wife and children. During his childhood he played baseball and soccer and wrestled. In addition he loved college and professional football as well as boxing and UFC. Predeceased by his parents Ida and Frank Benak, Steve is also predeceased by his father in-law Joseph Demico. Surviving are his loving wife of 37 years, Rose(Demico); daughters, Christine Jankoski and her husband Michael of Florida and Rose Yuill and her husband Bobby of Deptford; granddaughter, Raven Louna; sister, Hannah Wragg and her husband George of TN; brothers, Frank and his wife Marie of South Plainfield and Dean and his wife Eileen of FL; mother in-law, Catherine Demico; sisters in-law, Ann Lammi and Lucy Demico both of South Plainfield and brother in-law, Danny Demico also of South Plainfield. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Michael, Daniel and Joseph Lammi and Michael Benak, Nicole McCreesh, Mark Benak and Julie Davis. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 3pm-7pm in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Cremation Services will be held privately.
