Obituary of Dorothy H. Ferguson

Somerset, NJ-Dorothy H. (Berns) Ferguson, 86, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in Brooklyn, NY to her late parents Arthur and Helen Berns. She resided first in Bergen County, and then settled in Middlesex for most of her adult life until about 10 years ago when she moved to Somerset. In 1984, Dorothy retired from A.T&T in Piscataway where she worked as an administrator. After her retirement, she worked for the Somerset County Adult Care Center in Bridgewater where she could often be found assisting with ceramics and bible study. Having a love of reading, Dorothy belonged to the Middlesex Library Book Club and one of her favorite past times was traveling. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Virgin Parish and belonged to the Middlesex Elks #1488. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Joseph who died in 1989 and her brother, John Berns. Dorothy leaves behind her loving family: daughters and sons-in-law; Denise Smyth (Michael) of Hillsdale, NJ, Christine Ferguson/Berman (David) of Idaho, and Valerie Sweeney (Steven) of Lanoka Harbor, NJ, her grandchildren; Brian, Kimberly, Patrick, and Christopher, and her great grandchildren; Alyssa, Cole, Megan, Kelly, and Ashley, her sister Frances Berns of Michigan and her devoted companion Harry Tempesta of Freehold. Visitation will take place in Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846 on Monday, April 27, 2015 from 5-8 pm and on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 9:30-10:00 am. A mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 beginning at 10:45 am at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Parish in Middlesex. Dorothy will be laid to rest beside her husband at Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Wood River Valley Animal Shelter at www.animalshelterwrv.org
