Obituary of John Joseph Burns

John Joseph Burns, 99, passed away April 28, 2015 at the Abington Care Center in Green Brook. Born and raised in Bayonne, he resided in Roselle, Rahway and Toms River before settling in Piscataway in 2001. Mr. Burns was a Computer Developer with Western Electric in Kearny for 40 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the AT&T Pioneers and enjoyed traveling. John was predeceased by his first wife Emily who passed away in 1957 and by his second wife Florence who passed away in 2001. Surviving are his sons, John J. Burns, Jr., and his wife Michelle and Michael Burns and his wife Denise; his daughter Carol Armstrong and her husband Charles; his fifteen grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held on Monday 9:00 am at the St. Frances Cabrini Church in Piscataway followed by interment in the St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia. Visitation hours are Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Rd, Piscataway, NJ 08854. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to the St. Frances Cabrini Church, 208 Bound Brook Ave., Piscataway, NJ 08854.
