Michael E. Kearins, 80, of Piscataway, died on November 27, 2018 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City after a short battle with cancer. Born and raised in Hoboken, New Jersey to the late Edward and Madeline Kearins (nee Wolf), he attended Demarest High School, where in his senior year he met his high school sweetheart, the late Frances Caufield. Their love only continued to grow over their sixty years together. After graduating, Michael went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he and his wife Frances lived in Hoboken before settling to Piscataway in 1971. Mr. Kearins began his career with the United Nations in New York City in 1961. He was promoted during his distinguished 33 year career to achieve the highest rank without political appointment within the U.N., retiring as Inspector of Security in 1994. Michael was his children's biggest fan; the father of six was very active in all of his children's sporting events and activities. In his retirement, he found a love of traveling with his wife including twice across the country as well as Europe. He also took pride in his home and garden, especially his pool that he meticulously maintained. He was known for his witty one liners, giving a wealth of knowledge in just a few words. Michael was a long-suffering Jets fan throughout his life and most of all, was a family man. He enjoyed the quality time spent with his family, especially during the summer around the pool. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Frances Caufield Kearins, his daughter Patricia K. Kearins, and his siblings Deborah Kane and Edward Kearins. Surviving are his loving children, Maureen Szablewski and husband Lawrence, Michele Acevedo and husband Lorenzo, Kathleen Risko and husband Richard, Debra Crossman, and Michael Kearins, his cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Alexander, Samantha, Anthony, Richard, Fiona, Michael Aiden, Michael Ryan, Makenna, Patrick, and Tanner, his dear sisters Claire Gall and Barbara Casler, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
