Obituary of Amarilis Gladys Duarte

On December 15, 2018, Amarilis Gladys Duarte, 70, of Piscataway, took her last breath peacefully surrounded by the love of her family at home. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic to the late Rafael and Genoveva Rodriguez, her family moved to Washington Heights, Manhattan, New York, in 1960. Amarilis, also known as Amy to her friends, went on to start a family in Hoboken, before settling to Piscataway where she raised her family. She was a graduate of Middlesex County College where she obtained her accounting degree and worked her way up to Director of Accounting for Alternatives, Inc. in Raritan, before her retirement in 2014. Amarilis devoted her life to God in 1985 and was faithful to the Lord. She was a loyal and proud believer, and exemplified a true Christian lifestyle including becoming a disciplined Vegan since the early 90s. She was a member of the Lake Nelson 7th Day Adventist Church. Her devout Christianity brought prayer into her life and into the lives of everyone she loved. She was known for helping others; her love of giving was seen in everything she did. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ladislao Vargas. Surviving are her loving children, Marcos Duarte, Amy Johnson, and Sandra Duarte, her cherished grandson, Kaleb Johnson, her dear brother Luis Rafael Rodriguez, as well as her loved extended family, friends, and faith community. Family and friends are welcome to gather for a memorial visitation to be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00PM at the Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway.
