I met Ron through a shared interest in early sound musicals and film preservation. He lit a path for so many others. Ron was a key contributor to the book on the making of King of Jazz by myself and James Layton. The book would not have happened without Ron's enthusiasm and support. And Ron's knowledge and willingness to share his information and contacts were legendary. He generously let me scan his extraordinarily rare vaudeville yearbooks for the Media History Digital Library so they could be shared with everyone. Ron will be missed by everyone in the field of film history. My condolences to his family.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Ron back in 2014 about his work. He was gracious and kind man. There were many things in particular we enjoyed discussing about the Vitaphone films but one thing I enjoyed was chatting about the vintage film posters he had on the walls of his home. To this day, I have a ton of old movie posters in my apartment as he was the inspiration. A class act and kind man all the way!

I never met Ron in person but did email him often regarding film research. He was such a kind and caring man. Those who love the classic films of yesteryear owe a huge thank you to Ron for his preservation work. I am so sorry for your loss. It was such a shock to hear of his passing. Keep all the good memories of him always and then it will make you happy and take away the sadness. Bless you all. Martha Jett. Stonewood West Virginia
