Obituary of Gilda Mary Schoenberger
Gilda Mary Schoenberger, 90, of Middlesex, died peacefully on February 9, 2019 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Somerville.
Born and raised in Newark to the late Romualdo and Julia Camuso (nee Cappetta), she settled in Irvington where she raised her family.
Mrs. Schoenberger was an assistant at Prudential Life Insurance company for ten years. After dedicating her time to raising her three daughters, Gilda went on to devote 13 years as a pre-school assistant at St. Paul the Apostle School in Irvington.
While at St. Pauls, Gilda was an active member of the Rosary Society and also worked as the cashier for weekly Bingo. She and her husband Larry were chairmen of the annual church carnival for ten years.
The Schoenberger’s moved to Middlesex in 1993 where they became parishioners of Our Lady of Mt. Virgin Church.
Gilda was known for her baking. She provided her friends and family with years of delicious treats, and even won a blue ribbon for her cheesecake. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who kept herself and her home beautiful, and enjoyed the quality time spent together as a family.
She was preceded in death by her dear sister, Carmela Renick.
Surviving are her beloved husband of over 65 years, Lawrence Charles Schoenberger, her loving daughters, Debra Borowicz, Nancy Schoenberger, and Suzanne Moore, her cherished grandchildren, Liz Fackelman, Lauren Fackelman, Julia Fackelman, and Justin Moore, her dear brothers, Anthony, Victor and Lou Camuso, her former sons in law, Michael Fackelman and Thomas Moore, as well her extended family and friends.
Funeral services will begin 8:15AM on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30AM at Our Lady of Mt. Virgin Church, Middlesex. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum, North Arlington.
Family and friends are welcome to gather for visitation on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the funeral home.
