Obituary of James Joseph Vokral
James J. Vokral, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 14, 2019.
Born and raised in Staten Island, NY, Jim had been a resident in South Plainfield since 1978.
Within the borough which he proudly resided, Jim was a former Councilman and Past Council President. He was a 4th Degree Member of the South Plainfield Knights of Columbus Council 6203 where he served as the Past Council Navigator, he helped with the Boy Scouts, Little League Baseball and also belonged to the HAM Radio Club.
Devoted to his faith, Jim was a parishioner of Our Lady of Czestochowa and former parishioner of Sacred Heart RC Church where he had served as the Business Administrator. He was active with Saint Vincent DePaul Society serving as Past President and served on the Board of Life Choices Resource Center where he was recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Jim worked for A&P, Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent before becoming the Administrator for the Middlesex County Board of Elections. He had just recently retired after many years of dedicated work.
A true family man, Jim brought a smile to everyone's face and was respected by all. He was kind, gentle, humble, a mentor to many and a real gentleman. His smile alone could light up a room. He was one in a million, a genuine person, who loved everyone.
Jim was an avid collector and loved fishing. He was a fantastic photographer who took beautiful pictures of nature as well as his beloved family. Jim had a love of many of things but most of all he loved his beautiful wife, “his honey” Debbie.
In addition to his wife and best friend surviving are his son, James J. Jr. and his wife Kathy of Billings, MT; daughter, Christine Riggio and her husband Billy of Metuchen; brothers, Jack Vokral and his wife Carole of Staten Island, NY and Fred Vokral and his wife Sue of Piscataway; grandchildren, Steven, Heather, JT, Kayla, Billy, Josie, Spencer, Abigail and Madeline and great grandchildren, Max, Mason, Aceton, Charli and one expected soon. Also surviving are his dear brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and his beloved dog Magic.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 2-4 & 6-9pm at the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 11am at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church, South Plainfield.
Entombment will follow at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge.
