John Villares, 79, died on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. John, affectionately known as Poppi, was born in Bronx, NY and was raised in Newark before moving to South Plainfield in 1970. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Villares was a member of the ILA Local 1235 out of Newark. John adored his family more than anything else. He loved vacationing and taking road trips with his wife and brother as well as going out and enjoying a good meal always finishing it off with an espresso with Sambuca. Predeceased by his sister Gloria Young, surviving are his wife Katherine, daughter Penny Bencivenga and her husband Ralph of Clark and Lisa Pellegrino and her husband John of South Plainfield; son, John Villares and Kelly of South Plainfield; brother, Frank Villares and his wife Annette of Kearny; grandchildren, Joseph and Ricky Pellegrino, Joseph and Sophie Bencivenga and Lauren and Zachary Villares and brother-in-law, William Young of Westfield. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews extended relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 beginning at 12pm followed by a 3pm funeral service in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home or Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Cremation Services will take place privately.
