Obituary of Francis X. Barnes

Francis Xavier Barnes Beloved husband, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle & friend Francis X. Barnes, 76, of South Plainfield, NJ passed away at home on Sunday, March 8, 2020 with his loving wife at his side. He was born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ before moving to South Plainfield in 1970. He attended St. Patrick’s Grammar School and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1961 where he met his future wife, Carol. While working full-time, Frank attended and graduated from Rutgers University, Newark with a Bachelor of Science degree. Frank spent his 40- year professional career in the health insurance industry in various positions with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of NJ, Group Health, Inc., New York, & Multi- Plan, NY. Frank was an avid NY Giants fan, enjoyed playing tennis, going to the beach, reading and traveling. He especially enjoyed getting together with family and friends and just hanging out. He is predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Helen (McGann) Barnes; brothers, Raymond and Robert and brothers-in-law, William Anderson and William P. Leonard, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 55 years Carol (Schellenberg) Barnes; sister, Mary Patricia Anderson of Palm City, FL; sister-in-law, Marilyn J. Leonard of Rahway and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Barnes of Cranford. He will also be missed by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 9AM in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by a 10AM funeral mass in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield.
