Janet A. Wassel - Lapsley, 73, died on Monday, June 15, 2020 at home.

Born on April 15, 1947 in Elizabeth, NJ Janet was the only adored child of the late Louis J. (1988) and Edythe A. Genz (1970).

Raised in Elizabeth, Janet graduated from Battin High School Class of 1965. She also resided in Monroe Twp and South Plainfield prior to settling to Whiting in 2005.

While growing up, Janet and her parents spent many weekends as well as their summer vacations on her Uncle Ed Drickler’s farm in Hunterdon County. As it was always a good time roaming free and spending time with her cousins in the old swimming hole, doing what kids do best having fun on a farm.

In addition while growing up in Elizabeth, she was a member of the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church. Active within church, Janet sang in the church choir, participated in holiday programs, served as the secretary of the summer Vacation Bible School and as she grew older even published the church newsletter.

Along with her husband Barry, Janet enjoyed trips to Atlantic City where occasionally would be very lucky on her slot machines. She loved to travel and took many cruises enjoying the sights of other countries while relaxing poolside with a drink.

In her spare time, Janet loved cooking, baking, gardening, bowling, needlepoint, ceramics, as well as various creative projects. She was also a voracious reader and could always be found with a book in her hand.

Janet entered the workforce with NJ Bell and exited the telecommunication industry with Ma Bell. She then worked as an Office Administrator various companies within the Middlesex and Ocean Counties. While working as an Office Administrator, her and her husband also owned and operated several small businesses throughout the Middlesex and Monmouth County area.

In addition to her parents, Janet is also predeceased by her nephew, Joseph Palitto, Jr.

Surviving is her loving husband of 32 years, Barry S. Lapsley of Whiting; sister in-law, Constance Palitto and her husband Joe; niece, Katie Weber and her husband Mike and great nieces, Norah and Josie Weber. Also surviving are extended family and friends throughout NJ and Kentucky as well as her favorite cousin, Raymond Madden of Ireland.

For those who wish to attend, the visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020 from 6-8pm in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080.

Please be mindful of the current executive order that requires the proper face coverings (to be provided on your own) along with the social distancing and the 25% indoor maximum capacity.
