Obituary of Brett R. Smith Sr.
Plainfield, NJ – Brett Rene Smith Sr., 66, passed away peacefully at his new home on June 29, 2020.
Born in Jersey City to Jane and Henry, he resided in Roselle, South Plainfield and Piscataway where he met his wife Kathy of 12 years of which they shared 3 children. He then moved on and settled into nearby Plainfield close by to his beloved parents where he spent the remainder of his life.
Brett spent the entirety of his career working in heavy machinery and construction. He even held the title as a business owner operating as the head of B.R. Smith Company Inc for a duration of time before he contracted and worked for his brother Gene Smith. They would both go on together in building different kinds of projects from small to large spanning the time of over 4 decades. Brett was recognized for his diligence and strong work ethic where he refused to stop until the job was done.
Brett was a friendly, charismatic, and loving man with a magnetic personality where all were drawn to him for his humorous nature and kindness to others. He enjoyed music and dancing with his friends and family. Brett also had deep knowledge and interest in history and geography where he was able to always share with others information about past and current events. As far as sports were concerned, Brett loved football and was an avid New York Giants fan.
He is survived by his three children: Kimberly A. White and husband Vernon McNeil of Moncks Corner, SC, Brett Rene Smith Jr. and wife Madelyn of Piscataway, NJ and Jean-Pierre Smith and wife Marta of Wilmington, DE. Brett is also survived by his siblings: Gene and wife Margaret Smith of Gillette, NJ, Nanette and husband Paul Manfre of Piscataway, NJ and Liane and Jesse Singh of Monroe, NJ. He will be missed by his eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Piscataway Funeral Home on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Brett’s cremated remains will be returned to his children.
