Edison – Camela Hendry, 97, passed away peacefully in her sleep early morning, Friday, December 11, 2020 at Brighton Gardens in Edison.

Born in Kenneth Square, PA to the late Albert and Christina Solimani, Camela grew up in North Plainfield before settling to Edison with her husband, James.  Camela, a fashionista at an early age, turned her love for fashion into a 33-year long career beginning with Bamberger’s in Newark and then Macy’s of Menlo Park as a Merchandise Group Manager.  Prior to her work at Macy’s she worked at The Prudential Life Insurance Company in Newark.

A devoted wife of 53 years to James, the couple enjoyed traveling to their favorite destinations including Italy to reunite with family and to the Southern Caribbean Islands including Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and Grenada. The Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, VT was another favorite destination Camela enjoyed visiting with her husband, family and friends especially during the holiday season.

Camela enjoyed cooking and entertaining with family and friends, and she cherished her lifelong friendships made through the years. She will be remembered for her love of baking, especially her holiday cookies and specialty birthday cakes.  She will always be remembered for having a great story to tell of the times when she was growing up with her five siblings who meant the world to her.

Predeceased by her husband who died in 2001, James N. Hendry, and four siblings, William Solimani, Joseph Solimani, Louise Norton, and Edith Gunn, Camela is survived by her “baby” brother, Albert Solimani, along with her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.

Funeral services are private and under the direction of the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ.  A celebration of Camela’s life will be held in the Summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Reseach Hospital, www.stjude.com
