Obituary of Maria Jose Alves
Piscataway, NJ – Maria J. Alves, just two days shy of her 62nd birthday, passed away on December 10, 2020 at NY Presbyterian Hospital in New York. Born in the Aćores Islands of Portugal to the late Abel and Irene (Garcia de Matos) Ferreira, Maria immigrated to the United States at the age of ten, settling in Elizabeth and for the past twenty-three years, was a resident of Piscataway.
In her earlier years, Maria worked for Singers Sewing Company and American Airlines, but was most recently employed at Schor Middle School in Piscataway. Maria enjoyed reading and loved cooking, and when shopping, could always be found in the cookware department, looking for the next pot to add to her collection. Most of all, she cherished the time she was able to spend with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she was able to meet and adore due to a life-saving lung transplant three years ago.
A generous and caring wife, mother and grandmother, Maria always put everyone before herself and will forever be in the hearts of those who knew her as our advisor, best friend, and the glue that held everything together.
Maria leaves behind her loving husband Antonio, daughter Eileen and Joseph Mastrogiovanni and their two children; Joey and Amelia and by her daughter Ashley Alves, all of Piscataway. She is also survived by her sisters; Connie, Isabel and Guita and her brother Manny.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 beginning 10:00 am at Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854 with a religious service beginning at 12:00 pm. Mausoleum entombment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery Mausoleum in Colonia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations sent to https://igfn.us/vf/PFFTribute/MariaAlves would be appreciated.
