South Plainfield, NJ – Michael M. Quagliano, 98, affectionately known by his family and friends as “Oompa,” passed away in the early hours of Friday, December 18, 2020 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.  Born and raised in Hoboken to the late Anthony and Sarah (Policastro) Quagliano, he and his late wife Wanda settled to South Plainfield in 1974.

Michael was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country proudly during World War II.   He entered the service in October of 1942, received four Bronze Battle Stars, a Good Conduct and Victory Medal and a European African Middle Eastern Ribbon.  He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in December of 1945.  He worked for Halls Trucking in Secaucus as a Platform Worker, loading and unloading trucks.  He enjoyed spending time on the water boating and fishing.

Predeceased by his son Robert in 1974, wife Wanda in 2000, four siblings and son-in-law Larry Colvin, Michael leaves behind his six loving and devoted children; Anthony of South Plainfield, Michael of Georgia, Cynthia Colvin of South Plainfield, Joyce Puglese and her husband Peter of Elizabeth, Karen Gigantino and her husband Ronald of South Plainfield and Christina Niedzielski and husband Steve also of South Plainfield.

He is also survived by his brother Fred of New York, seven grandchildren; Wendy, Tiffany, Andrea, Peter, Matthew, Jacob and Zachary and two great-grandchildren; Katherine and Amanda.

Visitation will be held at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 4pm-8pm and on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 beginning 9:30am.

Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 10:00am followed by burial at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.  In lieu of flowers, donations sent to www.roeverfoundation.org or www.samaritanspurse.org would be appreciated
