Obituary of Richard T. Tarn
South Plainfield, NJ – Richard Thomas Tarn, 70, passed away at Haven Hospice located within JFK Medical Center on December 23, 2020. Born in Newark, Richard lived in Menlo Park Terrace, Edison and eventually settled to South Plainfield 9 years ago.
An honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, Richard proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and belonged to the 82nd Airborne Division. He worked as a mason for many years then became the head of Office Maintenance for a lawyer’s office in New Brunswick before retiring.
He was proud to be a veteran and loved his time spent with several local organizations. He was the membership officer with the South Plainfield American Legion Post 243, Retired Commander of the Edison American Legion Post 324, was a member of South Plainfield VFW and Fords VFW as well the South Plainfield Italian American Club. When he wasn’t volunteering his time with the numerous veterans’ organizations, he enjoyed playing games on his computer and was an avid pool player.
Predeceased by his parents, Everett and Ida (Frances) Tarn and his siblings; Everett Tarn and Nancy Hobbs, he leaves behind his wife Sandra Garofola-Tarn, his son Thomas N. Tarn and his fiancé Christina of Tinton Falls, sisters; Shirley Sedlak of FL, Kathleen Fanelli of Avenel and Frances Lynn of Edison as well as his step-children; Kenneth and Jenn Seibert of Jackson and Kevin and Ashley Seibert of Cleveland, NY.
He will be missed dearly by thirteen nieces and nephews, seven step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
Burial with military honors will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
