Obituary of Gus M. Spohn

South Plainfield -  Gus M. Spohn, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 26, 2020 in the Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center in Edison.

Born in Newark, NJ to the late Evelyn Steadle and Gus Henry Spohn, he resided in Newark before settling to South Plainfield in the early 1960s where he and his wife, the former Theresa Guiro raised a large family.

Employed as a truck driver for Ford Motor Company at the former Edison Plant, Gus operated a car carrier for many years prior to his retirement.

He was an avid New York Yankees fan who enjoyed watching old western shows, a good boxing match and doing crossword puzzles.

Gus is predeceased by his daughter, Angelina Rafalko who died in February of this year.  He is also predeceased by a grandson, Nick Rafalko and great grandson, Anthony Singh.

Surviving are his devoted wife, Theresa Guiro -Spohn, six children; Michael and his wife Jan, Theresa Harkey, Roberta Guzenski and her husband Ed, Mark Spohn, Cheryl Pacifico and her husband Jim and Lynda Pullen and her husband Brian.  His 19 grandchildren; Larissa Spohn, Tracey Tirpak, Amy Chatel, Cheryl Harkey, John Papadelias, Jamie Papadelias, Jessica Gustafson, Frank Rafalko, Tiffany VanHouten, Krista Brand, Matt Rafalko, Kelly Spohn, Allyson Spohn, Sarah Spohn, Natasha Kurilew, Alyssa Kurilew, Brian Pullen, Mike Pullen, Samantha Pullen.  Also surviving are 11 great grandchildren, numerous extended family members and friends.

Due to the ongoing Covid -19 guidelines and with a very large family, a private wake and funeral will take place in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funeral, 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
