Obituary of Genevieve Uffer
Genevieve Marie Uffer, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at St. Peter’s University
Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born in Pittston, PA, Genevieve resided in Jersey City and Port Reading before settling in Piscataway in
1963.
As a devout Catholic, she was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima RC Church in Piscataway.
Spending time with her family, gathered together in the home she previously shared with her beloved
husband Jim, gave Genevieve so much pleasure. Her husband, Jim, loved woodworking and as the family
grew, he made a very long dining room table to accommodate the family. It didn’t take long before he
needed to make an extension for the table because Genevieve always made sure it was filled with family
and friends especially on the holidays. Throughout the years, the family spent many happy times at their
farm in Pennsylvania. They were often joined by friends and relatives, and created many wonderful
memories. Genevieve’s unconditional love and support will have an enduring impact on all those whose
lives she touched.
Genevieve is predeceased by her beloved husband Jim who died in 1983, her parents Genevieve and
Frank Hurst, her sister Marilyn Leone and her son-in-law Robert Francis.
Surviving are her daughters, Catherine Francis of South River and Lori Uffer and her husband Edward
Stein of Freehold; sons, James Uffer and his wife Angela of South Plainfield and William Uffer and his
wife Mary Beth Locke of Somerset and grandchildren, Michelle Recco, Christopher Uffer, Megan Glenn,
Maria Yuen, Emily Uffer, Mary Francis and Debra Stewart. Also surviving are her great grandchildren,
Braidyn Uffer, Benedict, Adam and Cassandra Yuen, Emilia and Eliana Uffer and Shelby Glenn; and other
surviving family members include sister in-law, Marilyn Gardullo of Jersey City and brother in-law, David
Uffer of Baltimore, MD. The Uffer family would like to express our gratitude to Zenaida Walter,
Genevieve’s live-in caregiver, for the love and care she gave Genevieve during the last three years of her
life.
As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Uffer family will be holding all funeral services
privately. A memorial gathering for relatives and friends will be announced later in 2021.
The funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church and Genevieve will be laid to rest
alongside her husband at Resurrection Burial Park both located in Piscataway, NJ.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Rd., Piscataway,
NJ 08854.
