Obituary of Carmela Amodeo
South Plainfield – Carmela Amodeo, 85, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, January 18, 2021 in the New Jersey Eastern Star Home in Bridgewater.
Born in Ribera, Sicily, Carmela immigrated to the United States in 1954 and initially resided in Jersey City. After her marriage to Antonio Amodeo, they relocated to Brooklyn, NY and lived in Brooklyn until the birth of her first son. Shortly after, Carmela and Antonio moved to Plainfield, before settling to South Plainfield.
A talented seamstress and dress maker, Carmela worked for the Two L Dress Company in New York City. She was also a faithful communicant of Sacred Heart Church and was active with the Foundation for Retinal Research, now Foundation Fighting Blindness, after the birth of her Granddaughter.
Carmela, a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother will be forever missed by her family, friends and everyone who knew her.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Antonio Amodeo of South Plainfield; two sons, Anthony Amodeo of Telford, PA and Joseph Amodeo and wife Wendy of Dunellen and granddaughter, Grace Ann Amodeo also of Dunellen.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 9:15AM in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2456 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by a funeral mass in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield at 10:15AM
Family and friends may gather in the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8PM.
