Obituary of John E. Espin

John E. Espin 59, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021.

Born in Havana, Cuba, John immigrated to the United States with his late mom, Sarah, briefly living in Florida and resided in Greenpoint of Brooklyn, NY for 32 years before settling to South Plainfield in 1993.

He worked in the financial services industry for 40 years, serving as the Chief Deputy Director of Compliance for ING in Manhattan, a position he held for the last 15 years.

John was an avid NY Mets fan as well as a faithful Pittsburgh Steelers supporter and cherished spending time with his family and friends. On any given summer weekend, he could be found poolside with his family, jamming to great rock songs from Queen, Aerosmith, and Elton John, with a beer in hand and a smile on his face.

Predeceased by his mother, Sarah Sylvia Espin and his father Hermes Lafita Sr., John is survived by his wife, Susan; three sons, John and his wife Adrienne, Michael and his wife Darleen and Daniel and his wife Krista; sister, Dora Elisa Hernandez and her husband Jose; two brothers, Aristides Mendoza and his wife Josie and Hermes Lafita and his wife Zaray and four grandchildren, John Thomas, Jack, Emily and Shea.

Cremation Services were conducted privately.

A Memorial Gathering for relatives and friends to be received will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 1-4pm in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
