Sybil Dolores Hessing, known by many as Syb, was born on December 11, 1930 to the late Mary Dandee and James Reid in Kingston Jamaica. She was granted her angel wings on May 17, 2021 at her residence surrounded by family.

Sybil grew up with her family in Kingston, Jamaica. She attended Excelsior High School in Kingston, Jamaica. She migrated from Kingston, Jamaica to the United States of America in the mid 50’s. Sybil married the late Noel E. Hessing in 1958 in New York.  She then moved to Newark, NJ lived there for 22 years. In 1980 she moved from Newark, NJ to South Plainfield, NJ where she lived until she was granted her wings in heaven.
From her marriage two children were born, Ronald E. Hessing and Elaine K. Hessing.  Sybil received her undergraduate degree in 1960 in social work at New York University and obtained her Masters in social work at Rutgers University in May 1973. Sybil enjoyed learning and excelled in high school and college.  During her time in college Sybil was a part of a Sorority also.

Sybil was employed with Essex County Social Services for over 40 years. Her colleagues knew her as a woman with a warm heart and a kind soul, always willing to help at any given time.  She was a hard working employee and was promoted to supervisor in the late 1970s.   Everyone at her job knew her as a dedicated and motivated individual looking to help others whenever needed. Sybil retired in 2007 and truly enjoyed it, spending time with family and lots of cruising.

Sybil was a dedicated wife and a loving mother.  She touched many hearts and always extended her home to family and friends.  Sybil lived a loving and fulfilling life as a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved family holidays and the famous Hessing’s barbecues.   She was one who was loved by many in deed!

Sybil’s favorite hobbies were gardening, bowling, traveling, cruising, cooking, playing scrabble and spending time with family. She also was a part of many bowling leagues in her younger years. During Sybil’s free time at home she loved watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, playing words games with friends and reading the newspaper.
