Obituary of Yan Dong
Yan Dong, 63, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey.
Born in China, Yan immigrated to the United States in 1990 and initially resided in Hoboken, New Jersey. Yan and his wife, Fan, then relocated to Newark for several years before finally settling in Edison, New Jersey around 2002.
When Yan was younger, he was a soccer fanatic and would read and watch anything related to the sport. He also played the Defense role for his university's soccer team when he attended Beijing Medical University. Unbeknownst to many, the first time he met his wife, Fan, he was on crutches due to a soccer injury. As a father, he tried to pass on his passion for the sport to his son, Jonathan and had even personally taught him some techniques when his son was just a toddler.
After studying for his Master’s at Seton Hall University, he worked as a chemist for Hoffman – La Roche in Nutley for over 20 years. Following his retirement, Yan turned his hobby of home improvement projects into a very successful side business. In the more recent years, his impeccable business reputation had garnered him many joyous and loyal clients. Anyone that knows him would say that Yan was an extremely devoted, reliable and generous man. Not only was he a great cook, he also had a great sense of humor. In his spare time, Yan enjoyed reading Wuxia novels, playing solitaire, as well as watching action movies and Chinese dramas. Yan also enjoyed spending time with his family, including playing fetch with his orange tabby kitten, Peanut.
Predeceased by his father, Guanglu Dong, Yan is survived by his wife, Fan Chen; son, Jonathan Dong; his mother, Junyu Zhu; older sister, Jinxian Dong; younger sister, Jinxia Dong and younger brother, Ming Dong. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
