Plainfield, NJ – Samuel Diaz Rosado, 71, the “unofficial mayor of Watchung Avenue” in Plainfield, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in Puerto Rico to the late Jose Antonio and Sotera (Rosado) Diaz, Samuel moved to Plainfield at the age of eighteen to be with his siblings, and lived there until his death.
He worked for Standard Plastics and LA Dreyfus, both in South Plainfield and Sammy retired from E&A Restaurant Supply in Plainfield. Sammy never missed a family function and could always be found sharing stories and tell jokes to all of his loving nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his daughters; Lorna A. Diaz Rios of Puerto Rico and Sandy Kopp of North Wales, PA, stepson Mariano Lebron, Jr. of Florida, five grandsons; Joshua and Jon Paul Cruz Diaz and Liam, Samuel and Joey Kopp, great-granddaughter Josnelys Linnet Cruz, two brothers and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. A closing prayer service will begin in the funeral home at 7:30pm.
At the request of Sammy’s family, cremation will be held private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) would be appreciated.
