Obituary of Michael D. Omelio
Michael D. Omelio, 53, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 2, 2021.
Born in Plainfield, Michael grew up in South Plainfield and was currently residing in Piscataway.
Michael is a 30 year veteran of the performing arts industry. He was devoted to his work with Pleasant Valley Productions as their resident technical director and longtime member of their Board of Trustees. Other credits include facility technical director of The Oskar Schindler Performing Arts Center from 2019- present and JCC Metro west from 1988 – 2006. Additionally, Mike was the resident lighting designer for the JCC theater company from 1990 – 2006. Other lighting design credits include, Bloomfield HS, Glen Ridge HS, Livingston Community Players, The Center School and Brightest Star summer musical theater camp.
For his outstanding work in lighting design and dedication to his career, Mike has been recognized by the New Jersey Association of Community Theaters. He is the Owner and General Manager of New Jersey Theatrical Supply, a full service theatrical equipment supply and installation firm and he is also a 25 year member of I.A.T.S.E. Local 21.
In addition, Michael was an avid Star Trek and Stevie Nicks fan, enjoyed gardening and wine making.
Our loving son, brother, uncle and friend we are all so deeply heartbroken and our grief inconsolable. You brought so much continuous laughter and brightened a room when you entered. The world will be less bright without your beautiful and kind soul here and our lives are forever changed.
Predeceased his father, Michael P. III, surviving are his mother, Amy Omelio of South Plainfield; sister, Jennifer Corsello and her husband Michael of Hillsborough; brother, Christopher Omelio and his wife Bonnie of Hampton; niece, Emily Corsello and nephew, Michael (Mickey) Corsello both of Hillsborough. Also surviving are numerous extended relatives and dear friends of the theatrical and performing arts community.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 beginning at 9am followed by a 1:30pm funeral service in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
Immediately follow the funeral service Michael will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery Scotch Plains, NJ.
