Obituary of Harry L. Newton
Bridgewater, NJ – Harry L. Newton, 83, passed away on July 6, 2022 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Born in Youngstown, OH to the late Thomas and Luella (Hill) Newton, Harry grew up in Struthers and Mentor-on-the-lake, OH prior to moving to NJ. He was a graduate of Elizabeth High School and after his service to our country; he spent a few years in Raritan prior to settling in Bridgewater for almost forty years.
Stationed in Germany, Harry was a PFC in the United States Army from 1958-1960. He was a Pressman and in Sales with Man-Roland Press located throughout NJ and PA. Harry could often be found on the golf course or in the stadium as a NY Jets season ticket holder.
Harry’s passion in life was dedicated to helping those less fortunate and in need. A sixty-one year member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, he was instrumental in the development of Piscataway Lodge #2414 as a Charter Member in 1969. He is a two-time Exalted Ruler and held numerous positions within the Lodge, District and State Elks Associations. He joined and then chaired the District Special Needs Committee, Convention Committee and was a Trustee for the NJ State Special Children’s Committee. Among many things, Harry was also a Senior District Deputy Exalted Ruler and currently was the Production Coordinator of the NJ State Elks Association Newspaper.
A true friend, mentor and exemplary member of the Elks, Harry will be missed truly by all those who knew him.
Predeceased by his brother Jerry and sister Nancy, Harry leaves behind his wife Patricia (Yodzio) Newton of Bridgewater and his brother Thomas Newton of Fraser, CO. He will be missed dearly by his extended family and many friends, especially those he made over the years within the BPO Elks.
A gathering celebrating Harry’s life will be held at Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854 on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 6pm-8pm and on Saturday, July 16, 2022 beginning 9:00am. Funeral services will begin 10:00am in the funeral home on Saturday, July 16, 2022 followed by burial at Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway.
