Obituary of Theodore Robert Girvan
Theodore (Ted) R. Girvan, 83, passed away on July 14, 2022, in Georgetown, TX. He was a long-time resident of Middlesex, NJ.
Ted Girvan was born on June 12, 1939, in Wilkes Barre, PA, to Francis Girvan and Mary Girvan.
Ted graduated from St Mary's High School, Wilkes-Barre, PA in 1957 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Bucknell University. He started his career at Pittsburgh Steel as a Civil Engineer and went on to work at Merck for 25 years.
Ted married Maria Capone in 1961, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, in Kingston, PA and was married for 61 years. The couple had two children, Lisa Mickel and Michael Girvan.
Ted was a longtime volunteer fireman of 41 years. He started his volunteer career in Warminster, PA at the Hartsville Fire Co. When he moved to Middlesex, NJ, he became a member of the Beachwood Volunteer Fire Dept. where he became President and Asst. Chief and was honored as a Lifetime Member. Once he retired to Texas, he was a member of the Round Rock Volunteer Fire Dept. followed by the Florence Volunteer Fire Dept. Ted also volunteered at the Williamson County Fire Museum.
Ted was also a master woodworker and "Mister Fixit." He made beautiful wood creations for family, friends, and the Santa Rosa Church.
Last but not least, he loved his antique cars. He built a barn and filled it with eight cars and an antique fire truck, which he and a few others restored. He loved to tinker with them all. But his pride and joy was a green 1958 Ford Edsel. He took that car to many car shows and even won a few awards.
Along with his many interests and hobbies, Ted and Maria were world travelers. They traveled for both business and pleasure. They covered eight continents and much of the U. S. They took 42 cruises and loved every minute of them.
Ted was a man who could not sit still and loved to be involved with many different things.
Ted is survived by Maria Girvan, spouse of 61 years, of Georgetown, TX, Lisa [Kent] Mickel, daughter, of Leland, NC, Michael [Dawn] Girvan, son, of Stafford, NJ, Johnny Benton, grandson, of Seattle, WA, Travis Mickel, grandson, of Wilmington, NC, Courtney [John] MacDonald, granddaughter, of Lebanon, NJ, Brynleigh MacDonald, great granddaughter, of Lebanon, NJ, Evan Mickel, grandson, of White Plains, NY, Erica Girvan, granddaughter, of Somerville, NJ, Skylar Girvan, granddaughter, of Middlesex, NJ, Kathryn [Clark] Beurlen, sister, of Tarpon Springs, FL.
Theodore was preceded in death by Francis Girvan, father, Mary Girvan, mother, Edward Girvan, brother, Robert Girvan, brother, Frank Girvan brother.
The service for Ted Girvan will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church, Georgetown, Texas.
Visitation will also be held at Middlesex Funeral Home, Middlesex, NJ on Friday, July 22, 2022, from 9:00 till 11:00 a.m.
Burial to be held at Fern Knoll Cemetery, Dallas, PA.
