Obituary of Helen Marie Sette
Scotch Plains, NJ - Helen M. (Guzenski) Sette, 63, died peacefully on Friday September 16, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving and caring family following a courageous battle against cancer.
Born in Plainfield to the late Helen (Firkal) and Edward Guzenski, Helen was raised in Fanwood. She relocated to Clark after marrying Gene Sette, and the pair raised their family in Scotch Plains.
Helen loved taking long walks around the neighborhood with her children and dogs. She also liked spending time in the backyard and being surrounded by nature; watching the many birds and occasional butterfly, and enjoying the colorfulness and beauty of the flowers and plants around her. It recently inspired her to start a garden, which will carry her legacy as an adoring wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She was most happy being with her family - eating, talking, dancing, and having a few cocktails.
A beloved crew member of Trader Joes in Westfield, Helen was employed with the company for almost 15 years. In addition, Helen is a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Predeceased by her parents and her father-in-law, Gene J. Sette; Helen is survived by her husband of 43 years, Gene D. Sette; four beloved children, Nicholas Sette (Gilberto Camargo), Melissa Zierler (Alex), Joseph Sette, and Danielle Lopez (Mario) and fur-child and fur-grandchildren, Tiger, Calvin and Ella.
She is also survived by her five siblings, Ron Guzenski (Betsy, deceased), Barbara Guzenski, Dolores Guzenski, Edward Guzenski (Roberta) and Nancy Myrick (Randy); her mother-in-law, Kathleen Fierro Sette; sisters-in-law, Sabrina Terrill (Doug), Lisa Sette, Maria Sette (Joe Patskanik) and brother-in law, Mark Sette as well as many, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Family and friends may join together for visitation on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 between the hours of 2-4PM and 7-9PM at the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1571 Martine Avenue, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076 at 9:30 AM. There will be a celebration of life following the Mass at 11:00 AM. Location is to be determined.
Gone too soon, she will be forever missed and in our hearts. Our love for Helen, “Mom”, is immeasurable. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Center for Hope Hospice & Palliative Care in Scotch Plains or the ASPCA.
