Obituary of Veronica Simmons

Veronica Simmons 

March 2, 1924 - January 10, 2023

Beloved mother, grandmother, Veronica Simmons (Fugman) passed away peacefully, in her home, on January 10, 2023, at age 98. She was born in Hoboken, NJ, to Katherine (Oehme) and George Fugman. In 2008, Veronica lost her beloved husband, James Simmons. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law Louis Donati, her grandson Thomas Warren, and her six siblings: Lawrence, George, Elizabeth, Anne, Mary, and Katherine. 

Veronica was an extremely kind, gentle, and peaceful person who loved her family very much. Well into her 90s, Veronica loved taking out her fanciest dishes and embroidered tablecloths and hosting weekly family dinners, spending winters in Florida with her daughters, painting with her son, and reading the latest Nicolas Sparks or mystery novels. 

Veronica will be greatly missed by her six children: Patricia Donati of Dunedin, Florida, Paul Keller (Diane) of Kendall Park, New Jersey, Jacqueline Lombardi (Dr. Robert) of Mantoloking, New Jersey, Alice Simmons of Palm Bay, Florida, Deborah Lanza (Thomas) of Sea Bright, New Jersey, and James Simmons of Bordentown, New Jersey. Veronica will also be remembered with love by her 25 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, as well as her sister-in-law Patricia Hackman. 

The family invites you to join them to celebrate the funeral mass on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 10am at Sacred Heart RC Church 149 South Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ. Entombment will follow at Resurrection burial Park, Piscataway, NJ.

A private viewing will be held for immediate family members before mass.
