There are so many memories that I hold dear of Tita Zennie. As a child, I always remember her tending to her garden, always hosting the best parties, being so crafty in the special projects she sewed and made. I will always be grateful for her restoring the wedding pew decorations for the church for my wedding day. Tita Zenie and Tito Ted were also one of the first people to come and visit me when I had my first born son, Brandon. She held Brandon in her arms in September of 2012 and kept repeating his name over and over again. My latest and fondest memory of Tita Zenie is when she came over our house in Monroe for my daughter, Rosella's, 1st birthday party in July 2015. She danced and had so much fun on the deck with the family. She laughed and had a great time. Attached are some photos of that amazing memory I will never forget. I am so lucky to have had an amazing Tita. I miss my own Dad, Ross, so much and I know he was definitely one of the first people to greet her with open arms and a huge smile on his face when they reunited together again in heaven. I love them both so much and their lives have impacted mine. I will cherish the memories forever and am grateful to have had Tita Zenie in my life! Love - Cecille Asuncion Pereyra & Family

I wrote a short poem - 26 words, one word for each letter of the alphabet - to capture what I think may be some of the essence of Zenie. The title is "Zenie from A to Z."
The word for letter "A" was easy: Amazing.
"Z" is for "Zenie".
I found the perfect word for "X" - "Xenial" which means warm and welcoming, hospitable.
"Zenie from A to Z"
Amazing, Beautiful, Charmer-
Devoted Everlastingly -
Found God's Heaven Inside, Joyfully.
Kind, Loving Mother.
Never Off Prayer Questioning Reality.
Solitude Together United.
Vibrant, Wholehearted, Xenial You -
ZENAIDA!

Dear Mama Zennie,
We love you! We miss everything you are and the light that you have brought in all of our lives. We especially miss the way you would tap your fingers or stomp your feet to the beat of the music while we showed you our dances. We should have visited you more too, but we are grateful for the time we had with you! Thank you for being the best grandmother to us and our cousins! Everything we continue to do we will think of you. We love you Mama!
With all our love,
Natasha, Nadia, and Nico

Dearest Tita Zenie, Thank you for taking care of me during my college years in the east coast. You were always so much fun to be with. You were always there for me when I needed to escape the busy college life. I will always be your “Em Silly”. Wish I could hold your hand and hug you one last time. Love you very much.

I loved my dear sister-in-law Zenie. She was special. She graced the lives of so many people for 86 years.
Zenie’s legacy is her kindness and how she took care of her family. I especially appreciate how she helped her sister Prosper with her young son Jay.
Prosper and I spent many fun times with Zenie — and Ted. They were so generous with their time when we visited them in New Jersey, taking us to many places, including Atlantic City, Mystic Seaport, Martha’s Vineyard, Provincetown, and Niagara Falls.
Spending time with Zenie and Ted traveling created wonderful memories, but the best memory I have is when Zenie and Ted welcomed me with open arms into their home and their hearts when I married Zenie’s sister Prosper. For that I will be forever grateful.
May Zenie rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing.

My fondest memory of Aunty Zenie were the trips I took to NJ back in the day. I was always welcomed by her, as if I were part of her immediate family. I always enjoyed her happy and uplifting attitude, as if she didn’t have a care in the world. She was always pleasant to be around and always saw the positive side of things. I will miss that carefree attitude and warm smile. Thank you Auntie Zenie for making me one of your own.

Shortly after Kat and I moved to Burlington, VT mom and dad came to visit. The first thing mom said when she walked in to our apartment was … “Which bedroom is yours and which one is Kat’s”. Haha! I miss you and love you so much mom.

My dear sister Zenie,
I so much wanted to be with you during your last days, but I was not able to get to New Jersey in time to do that. I wanted to sit with you, talk to you, hold your hand, touch your face, kiss you on your forehead and your cheek, and hug you with all the love I have for you.
Now, all I can do is remember. Remember how you were when you were well. Remember you during the good times. Remember what a wonderful big sister you were.
You were the best big sister ever. You — and Ted — took good care of my son Jay every summer for many years when I sent Jay to New Jersey to be with his cousins during Jay’s summer vacation from school.
My husband Michael and I spent a lot of time with you and Ted over the years, both in New Jersey, and in the San Francisco Bay Area when you visited us. We had so many good times together.
I remember going cherry picking with you and Ted, and Roy and Ailyn in June 2015; that was so much fun. I remember when you and Ted took Michael and me to the Duke Estates mansion, greenhouse, and gardens in July 2015. I enjoyed being with you as we toured the grounds and walked through the greenhouse with its display of varied and beautiful orchids.
I remember how talented you were. You made some of your own clothes, and you made curtains for your house. And you made beautiful decorations for the pews at church, and those decorations were joyfully used by many members of our family at their weddings.
Most of all I remember how loving, kind, and supportive you were. I am so lucky that you were my big sister, and I will never forget you.
