Age: 40 * Sparta Township
Formerly of Piscataway – Jonathan R. Mendoza, 40, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover following a sudden and rare illness, during which his tremendous strength was apparent to the many healthcare professionals attending to him. While Jonathan was hospitalized, his wife Thida gave birth to their sixth child, Jonas, whom Jonathan did not have the chance to meet.
Jonathan faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps. in Iraq from 2002 until 2006. He was proud to receive many accolades during the time of his service including The Marine Corps. Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon (Iraq), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (@d Aws,) Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (Iraq), National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Qualification Badge (Marksman) and the Pistol Qualification Badge (Sharpshooter). After his honorable discharge, one of his first jobs was helping veterans who also suffered from PTSD, he went on to work as a Project Manager for Optum in Basking Ridge.
Jonathan loved cars and had the opportunity to purchase his dream car, an electric blue Subaru STI, which he was in the process of remodeling and rebuilding. He had a passion for food and fitness, two things he shared with his wife, Thida. He was a member of multiple gyms, working towards getting his physical fitness certification and starting a fitness business so he could share that passion with others. Jonathan was also an avid sneaker collector, with a wide collection of shoes including everything from Jordans to Yeezy’s and other limited editions. He loved shopping with the kids for tiny versions of the classics.
Jonathan enjoyed every moment spent with his adoring family, especially his wife and young children. He is survived by his wife Thida (Beng) Mendoza and their six children, all of Sparta: Tiffany (8), Maxine (6), Jessica (4), Dwayne (3), Ace (1) and Jonas (newborn), parents Max and Purisima (Rocha) Mendoza of Piscataway as well as many in laws, friends and extended family.
Visitation will take place at Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854 on Friday, March 10, 2023, from 2pm – 4pm and 7pm – 9pm.
Funeral services will be held 9:45am in the funeral home on Saturday, March 11, 2023, followed by a 10:30am funeral mass at Our Lady of Fatima RC church in Piscataway. Jonathan will be entombed with military honors at Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway.
