To Maria's loving family,
Maria was such a special friend of ours and we loved her so much----- an amazing lady with an amazing life story and such a generous heart for all. Her family was her life, and all she met became her extended family, including the many people she was such a loving caregiver to through her years in Chaumont. We will forever miss her and always have a special place in our hearts for her family.
It is hard to think of Maria and not George. They were one. We will always remember all the times we visited Maria and George, and could never leave without being fed. We would bring keilbosa, perogies and rye bread from Syracuse for them and they enjoyed a taste of home. We had many enjoyable visits at our home and dining out together.
They loved coming to stay at our camp in the Adirondacks. Maria always said it reminded her of her home back in Poland when she was a young girl. Both Maria and George became good friends with our large family, especially at Octoberfest at camp, and everyone always enjoyed their company. Taking them on tours of Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake, Lake Placid and along the St. Lawrence River produced many stories and memories.
They both loved America so much and were so proud to be citizens and live here. We are privileged to have known them and learned so much from them about their amazing lives. Maria and George truly lived The American Dream because of their hard work and appreciation for freedom. May God continue to bless them and their family.

I will miss Maria, she enriched my life in so many ways. I thank God everyday for all those special people He has brought into my life- Maria and George were so special.
Maria had great gusto, charisma and so much character. Her heart touched everyone, no matter the situation, time of day, or even the weather!(lol)
Maria’s life was so much more than the typical American. Maria and George both taught so many about thier histories growing up in poverty and war: Poland / Hungary. If she didn’t say it once, she said it a hundred times-“Stupid Americans, they do not know what they have here. They do not appreciate thier country. They have the chioce to grow up and become whatever they choose to be and live free.
God bless you Maria, I’ll always hold you close to my heart. Your path to Heaven is filled with flowers, sunshine and eternal happiness.❤️

Dear Family and Friends,
I wanted to share my memories of Maria. I am reminded of what a good friend she was to me, since I moved to Chaumont in 2010. Jim and I first became a customer of both George and Maria when they ran their bakery out of their Chaumont home. We all became good friends and enjoyed dinners and visits over tea, coffee, and wine. It can be difficult to make new friends in an area sometimes when you don’t raise your children or have lifetime connections. Maria showed me that it is possible to establish strong bonds of friendship wherever you live. She was proof that this was possible and she had done this many times. She could speak about that personal immigrant story about leaving her country of birth, Poland to establish a new life elsewhere. She lived in NJ, Dundee NY , and then in Chaumont. She had many friends from all those places.
What I admired most about Maria was what a wonderful caregiver she was.I saw how lovingly she cared for Frances for many years in her home. This was a 24 hour job, but she and George did it without regard for the pay which is very poor. They did it for love of another human being who due to fragility in mind, health, and age can’t care for themself. Maria was a devoted caregiver to many individuals and a blessing to their families in our Chaumont Community. God bless the caretakers among us.
I have fond memories of her company for many happy times, going to church and then out of breakfast or lunch, attending musical events, and out to local festivals. I have shared many wonderful meals at her table and she and George at mine. I loved the stories we shared. I know that there was a big hole in Maria’s heart when she lost George in a tragic accident. As best as we could, her friends tried to somewhat fill that space. We missed her when you left Chaumont for NJ due to her health concerns.
I hope you enjoy the pansies I bring to your grave. I planted them every spring for you at your home. I planted them this weekend in my planters and window boxes. I will forever think of you when I see the smiling face of pansies. You always told me “To Enjoy My Life”, and I will try to live that advise.
Fondly,
Sue and Jim Mahoney
