Mr. Diskin (I never called him anything else) was one of the most inspirational and caring people I have ever known... Always quick with a name and class year even after I had left school and was out of the area for many years. When I first visited some 20 years after graduating, he knew who I was and what class I had been in...remarkable.
More importantly, I had lost my father just before I entered high school. This was not lost on Mr. Diskin as he was always interested in how I and my mom were faring. He offered his time up to me if I ever needed an ear and I availed myself of that generosity more than once. He changed my life and helped me see that I could most certainly go to college when I didn't think that was remotely possible. He and Fran Feldman helped me get through the paperwork and he provided his own written recommendation to the two schools to which I applied. I got a full ride at both Rutgers and Alderson Broaddus and ultimately went to the latter. I am sure his involvement was instrumental in being accepted at those institutions.
Thank you Mr. Diskin for myself and for so many others that benefitted from their relationship and interactions with you, whether it was through education, athletics or an understanding and listening ear. Rest in Peace my dear friend. You will not soon be forgotten.

Mr Diskin was my favorite teacher. He really cared for every student he had. He never forgot a name or the character of any student he knew, and he knew a lot of them.
When I was teaching, I often thought of him and tried to listen to my students the way he always listened to us.
He was a wonderful role model and I will never forget him.

Q: What will you never forget about Peter?
A: Those of us from the MHS class of 1967 lost a great man today - who most of us considered the best teacher we ever had. He taught us so much about History, not just what was in the books, but well beyond that. He came to all our reunion/get togethers and remembered everyone's name. He even attended our parents wakes to offer his condolences. A truly special man. Every time we get the answer correct on a Jeopardy History question, we say Thank You, Mr. Diskin. Rest in Peace.

I remember Pete as my principal in high school. He was always available for anything. Students loved him. Years later I walked into the pharmacy and he knew me. I was quite surprised. He was so kind and I always hoped he would be working when I picked up prescriptions. My deepest condolences to all the family. He was a remarkable man.

Peter Diskin was an inspiration to his students and friends--I was both. He and his wife Mary shared many post high-school times with former students-now friends-at our MHS "Get-together's" in our
"Home Town" of Middlesex or in Dallas/Southland, Texas. We shared old memories and created new ones.
Mary, we Pray for you and your family. We know you will all miss him dearly, as will we.

As a graduate of the Class 0f 1970 and later as a member of his faculty, I witnessed Pete lead us through decades of social change. At times he would remark that he had thought he'd seen everything when challenged by elements which did not align with his principles, yet Pete persevered with humor and grace. His passing marks the end of an era. May his family be comforted by their wonderful memories and with the knowledge that he touched so many with his kindness.

Oh my goodness, so sad, a wonderful man has passed away..so thankful though to have so many wonderful memories of Mr. Peter J. Diskin....Middlesex High School teacher, coach, vice principal and principal when I attended 1964 - 1968. He was very well-liked, so popular and admired by all of us...Our MHS Class of 1968 was so lucky to have
entered our high school years as Mr. Diskin simultaneously entered MHS to begin his amazing tenure. By his own admission, we were always special to him for this very reason of starting together at MHS in 1964.
We were reminded of his fondness to our class of 1968 when years later, Mr. Diskin attended the majority of our class reunions. Our attending class members always looked forward to seeing him and immensely enjoyed hearing him speak....
.......always reminiscing back in our time and roasting many of our classmates with his uncanny and witty ability to remember so much of what went on in our 4 years at MHS These were times that have become oh so precious.as memories today. Thank you Mr. Diskin....always in our hearts via these memories!
Mr. Diskin will be missed by so many for so many reasons......
May you Rest in Peace Mr. DIskin.
My heartfelt condolences to the Diskin family..

A Friend like Pete Diskin come along only once in a lifetime.
When I think back to when we met in the third grade at St Elizabeth's Grammar School in Linden New Jersey, I realized then and now how much family and friendship would become the cornerstone of our lives.
Pete had an encyclopedic mind with a style all his own - Empathy and care for his fellow man or woman. He gave 110% in all his endeavors, whether in the classroom, the office or on the ball field.
He lived a life of service to others with countless positive impacts on so many of us.
We were all the better for having known him.

Principal Diskin endures as one of the most positive figures from my high school years. He was inexplicably EVERYWHERE (even where you wished he wasn't), and always attuned to the students' needs, moods, proclivities. His sense of humor was ever present, while never undermining his authority - it made him human, it made us trust him, and I wish today's student body had the chance to experience his leadership. He will be sorely missed.

Mr. Diskin was a great VP, knew everyone's name and "heard all the excuses" when he caught you skipping class. Q: What will you never forget about Peter?
A: I think I speak for everyone when I say how much I respected Mr. Diskin! His ability to connect with each and every student was nothing short of amazing. In the early 2000’s Mr. Diskin was substituting at Mauger School and I was in a few classrooms with him while I taught the DARE program. Watching Mr. Diskin tell students how he knew there parents and sometimes grandparents, then sharing funny stories with them, was inspiring and just special!! Thank you Peter J. Mrs.Diskin and family my deepest condolences and sympathy for you. Mr.Diskin was a wonderful person. My 1st in counter with him was my freshman year at a pep rally in the gym. I was sitting at the very top of the bleachers watching the paper airplanes flying along with the crumble paper balls being thrown around. Out of nowhere was this TALL man climbing up the bleachers and said pointing you, you, and you down to my office. When Mr. Diskin pulled me into his office and asked me why I'm down here, I replied I don't know. He said you weren't throwing paper balls or airplanes around, I said no I was watching all the action taken place. And ever since that day he knew my name. RIP Mr. Diskin.

I’m sorry to hear of Mr. Diskin’s passing. He was a great educator and administrator. All the years I attended MHS, we talked about how he seemed to predict what we were thinking or about to do (in the way of some innocent mischief) before we did it. He maintained control, but never lost his sense of humor. He made a difference and positively influenced so many lives over the years. His thumbprint will remain on the psyche of everyone fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. My condolences to his family and friends.

Q: How did you meet Peter?
A: As I sat in my seat in Mr Diskin’s History class I could not believe how quickly he memorized every student’s name. He knew mine very well. As we were running our daily cross country loop from the high school up Mountain Ave across the Watchung ridge along he cruises, windows down, “step it up, Jacobs” To me, he had the charisma of JFK and the wisdom of Solomon.

To Mary, the children and the entire family. Please accept my condolences on Pete’s death. He was well respected by many. Family, community, the students and his position as administrator were of utmost importance. He was a genuinely good guy and fair as an administrator, and I’ll remember our casual conversations about anything as well as the Christmas gatherings at the house. One more thing comes to mind about Pete. He loved to rub it in if his lottery numbers came in and it was your room number that he picked. He won frequently. Rest In Peace Pete. Mr. Diskin was a teacher when I started MHS in 1965.
Then he became VP of MHS. He was the most fair disaplainerian.
After I graduated he moved across the street from my family home.
He was a great neighbor.
After I was married and I would visit my mom Mr. Diskin became friends with my husband. They were only 2 years apart in age.. At that time he told me to call him Pete. I told him I couldn't because it seemed disrespectful.
One of the amazing things about Mr. Diskin was he always remembered your name the year you graduated who your siblings were and who you hung out with in school.
He will be forever missed.
My condolences and prayers to Mary and his family.
May he rest in peace and may God's perpetual light shine upon him.

Q: What will you never forget about Peter?
A: He was kind, firm, and fair. He had a great sense of humor. I liked to play pranks on people in high school and was sent to his office often. He decided that if “I wanted to act like a pre-schooler, he would make me eat lunch with them”. It was a fun “punishment” and a great way to make a point. He led with kindness, he was understanding and a role model to me and many others. He helped me realize my potential and that is priceless. I am sad for his loss, but happy to have known him.
