Obituary of Peter Guarraci
Peter Joseph Guarraci, 72, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ.
Born in New York City, Peter was a lifetime resident of South Plainfield, NJ. He graduated from the former Alma White College in Zarepath. A keen eye and appreciation for good design eventually led Peter to a successful and colorful career in the fashion industry. He began that nearly 40-year career at Brooks Brothers in Manhattan, followed by Barneys New York, where he served as Senior Vice President, and finally as the Director of Men’s Shoes and Leather Goods for Bergdorf Goodman. Peter retired in 2013 and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Throughout his life, Peter was a devout NY Yankees and Giants fan as well as an avid baseball card collector. He also loved Billy Joel and the Beatles, Big Bang Theory and the Berkshires, and a really good and perfectly al dente pasta. Garlic and broccoli and remote controls were his only enemies as his lighthearted nature and innate generosity made him instantly endearing to anyone he met. And he never passed up an opportunity to tell a good joke, ensuring he was frequently the life of the party and a hit with all the nieces and nephews and grandkids.
His legacy and laugh will be remembered and treasured by all who were fortunate to know and love him.
Predeceased by his son, Christopher, and parents, Anthony and Regina Guarraci, Peter is survived by his wife, Nancy of South Plainfield; son, Anthony and his wife Anabel of Roswell, GA; sister, Victoria Guarraci of Sugar Hill, GA; grandchildren, Griffin and Katie Guarraci and sisters-in-law, Gloria DeFillipo of Springfield, MA and Lorraine McCarty and her husband John of Brigantine, NJ. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Melissa, Maria, Stefanie, and Nicholas as well as great nieces and nephews, Alissa, Nolan, Mikey, Garrett, and Evelyn.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 4-8pm in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 beginning at 11am in the funeral home.
Immediately following the funeral service Peter will be laid to rest in the Guarraci family plot at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, NJ.
