Obituary of Sandiago J. DiLeo
Sandiago “Sandy” John DiLeo, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at his home in South Plainfield.
Born in Scotch Plains, NJ to the late Frank and Teresa DiLeo, Sandy has been a resident of South Plainfield for 66 years.
In 1952, he joined the United States Navy where he proudly served for three and a half years before an Honorable Discharge in 1955. Following his active duty service, Sandy went on to serve in the United States Navy Reserves, until 1960.
For 26 years, Sandy worked for Culligan Water Softening Company in Union, NJ, installing and repairing water-softening equipment. He retired from Culligan in 1992.
Outside of work, he was a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church in South Plainfield. He could also be found gardening, making wine, or spending time in his yard, tending to it, or watching the birds.
Sandy leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Judith (nee Bengivenga) DiLeo; children, Susan DiLeo of South Plainfield, Michael DiLeo and his wife Cheryl of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Ken DiLeo and his wife Margaret of Flemington, NJ; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by a host of extended relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Sunday, June 30, 2024, from 3 PM to 6 PM.
Funeral Services will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1500 Plainfield Ave, South Plainfield, NJ, on Monday, July 1, 2024, at 10 AM/. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home beginning at 9 AM.
Burial will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 1734 Clinton Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the DiLeo family has asked that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in Sandy’s name.
