Obituary of Gilbert Leroy Richter, Jr.
South Plainfield – Gilbert Leroy Richter, Jr., affectionately known as “Gilly” or “Uncle Gilly,” passed away after a vigilant battle with Cancer on November 2, 2024, at Ashbrook Care & Rehabilitation Center in Scotch Plains. Born in Plainfield to the late Gilbert and Helen (Menges) Richter, Jr., Gilly has been a lifelong resident of the borough, just living next door to his family childhood home.
He worked as a computer programmer for Bell Labs, which later became Nokia located in Murray Hill and was a member of their Pioneer Club. Gilly was a total “foodie” who enjoyed eating and drinking coffee in his earlier days, he liked taking cruises.
Predeceased by his sister Debbie Kratz and brother Kevin Richter, Gilly leaves behind his only brother, Todd and his wife Luchie of South Plainfield along with his only niece and nephew, Danielle Richter and John Kratz and his wife Shelly as well as three grand - nephew and nieces; Joseph, Kaila, Shyann. Uncle Gilly will always be remembered as a sweet and gentle person by his family & friends.
