Obituary of Frank P. Licato

Frank P. Licato, 83, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown. Born in Newark, Frank resided in Maplewood prior to moving to South Plainfield where he resided for 55 years before relocating to Ortley Beach in 2015 Frank was the founder, owner and operator of the Frank P. Licato Agency in South Plainfield and retired after providing 60 faithful and dedicated years of service to his clients. A Veteran of the U.S. Navy Frank served during Korea. During his active duty enlistment, Mr. Licato served as Naval Intelligence and received his honorable discharge in 1960. Active within several local and civic organizations in the greater South Plainfield and Plainfield area, Frank was instrumental in founding the South Plainfield Community Pool. He served as the Community Pool's 1st President and held this position for more than 20 years. He was a former member of the South Plainfield Planning Board, served as Past President of the South Plainfield Board of Education and while active with the Jaycees, Frank was awarded their Distinguished Service Award. A founding member of Plainfield's Chapter of UNICO, Frank served as UNICO's National Past President. Mr. Licato was Past President of both the Middlesex County and State Independent Agents of NJ as well as Past President of the Watchung Rotary. In addition, Mr. Licato was a 1st Degree Mason, a former member of the Elks and during his children's youth, Frank coached at the South Plainfield Little League and participated in the former YMCA Indian Guides of Plainfield. In recent years, Frank became a Certified Shellfish Gardener and volunteered with the non-proft ReClam The Bay Organization. When Frank was not volunteering he could often be found playing golf, clamming, fishing or traveling but what he really enjoyed the most was spending time with his family at their Ortley Beach shore house. Predeceased by his parents and brother Joseph, he is survived by his wife Frances and children; Deb Licato - Meiman (John) of Ortley Beach, Dr. Frank P. Licato Jr. (Mina) of South Plainfield , Jeff Licato (Jacqui) of Basking Ridge and Wendy Berens (John) of FL., grandchildren; Kate Meiman Andreychik (Mike), Aimee and Chris Meiman, J.R. Licato (Kelsey), Frank P. Licato III, Paul G. Licato, T.J. Berens, Tom Licato, Brett Hawn and Amanda Berens and great grandchildren; John Robert and Eleanor Andreychik. Also surviving are his brother; Paul, sister; Pat and many loving nieces and nephews. The Licato family will be receiving relatives and friends for the Memorial Gathering on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 5-8pm in the South Plainfield Funeral Home 2456 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
