Elwood M. Terry South Plainfield - Elwood M. Terry, 81, died on Thursday, November 29, 2007 in the Haven Hospice unit of Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born in Piscataway, he had resided in Plainfield for many years before settling to South Plainfield in 1964. An Army veteran of WWII, he served in the 778th Tank Battalion with General Patton's 3rd Army before being honorably discharged in July of 1946. Elwood and his wife, had attended several of the 778th tank battalion reunions over the years. In addition, he is a life member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #6763, the American Legion Chaumont Post # 243 both of South Plainfield and is a charter member of the WWII museum in New Orleans. Elwood had been employed by the South Plainfield Board of Education in the Maintenance Department as an electrician for 20 years before his retirement at age 62 in the late 1980's. He is predeceased by his parents, William H. And Emma (Garretson) Terry, and his four brothers, Alfred, P. William, John Francis and Arthur Terry. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Margaret M. (Mingle), his two nieces and two nephews, Alfred "Bud" Terry of Concord, NC., Marilyn Terry of Califon, NJ., Douglas Terry of Hudson, OH. and Suzanne Damberg of Downingtown, Pa. Also surviving are his two sisters in law Eileen Mingle and Beda Jody Dupras. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 3, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the McCriskin -Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue ,South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 2,2007 from 1-5 PM in the funeral home
