Arthur C. Porzio South Plainfield-Arthur C. Porzio, 93, died on Saturday, October 13, 2007 in Haven Hospice of JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he had resided in Clark before moving to South Plainfield in 1963. Art was the former Co-Owner of Clark Masonry & Concrete Co. of Clark for many years before retiring in 1989. A carpenter by trade, he had also worked for the former Dur Cal Plastering & Concrete. He served in the US Army during WWII, and was a member of Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield. Art had loved the game of baseball for his entire life. During the depression he tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals where he was invited back and been given the opportunity for a second try out. For many years Mr. Porzio was member of the South Plainfield Beverage softball team. Due to his level of fitness, Arthur was once referred to by a teammate; as one who looked strong enough to squeeze saw dust out of a bat handle.
