Jewel B. Lunna South Plainfield - Jewel B. (Bartter) Lunna, 82, died on Saturday, February, 16, 2008 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born and raised in Columbia Station, Ohio, Mrs. Lunna has been a resident of South Plainfield since 1952. In 1949, Jewel married Dr. Richard C. Lunna after graduating from Iowa University. Soon after moving to South Plainfield she assisted her husband in the construction and daily routine of operating the Plainfield Animal Hospital. Serving as the original owners of the hospital, Mrs. Lunna was an integral part in establishing the animal hospital in the first 10 years. She and her husband Richard, enjoyed 58 years of a happy marriage. She was a longtime and extremely active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in South Plainfield. Jewel held several positions within the church and was known as the "Church Decorator" taking care of both the inside and outside of the church. For nearly 20 years, Mrs. Lunna was an elementary Art Teacher at the former Hartridge School, Plainfield campus, now known as the Wardlaw Hartridge School, retiring in 1989. An avid golfer, Jewel was a member of the Plainfield Country Club West 9 Golf Course and was highly active in the "Tuesday Niners" women's golf league. She was a 7 time league champion and won her last championship at the age of 80. Mrs. Lunna was also a member of the Westfield Weavers Guild and along with her husband, was a member of the Plainfield Netherwood Tennis Club. In addition, she enjoyed skiing and gardening. She is pre-deceased by her sister Mildred Poling and by her 2 brothers Carroll and Lynn Bartter. Surviving is her beloved husband Dr. Richard C. Lunna, her daughter Jerree Lunna of Mendon, VT. and her son Todd Lunna and his wife Eileen of Colts Neck, NJ. Also surviving is her grandson Tom Bartell. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Wesley United Methodist Church, South Plainfield. Relatives and friends will be gathering in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfied on Wednesday evening, February 19, 2008 from 7-9 PM. Cremation is private. Donations can be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
