George Pornovetz South Plainfield - George "Taxi" Pornovetz, 81, beloved husband, dear father, grandfather and great grandfather died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, December 17, 2008. A lifelong resident of the boro of South Plainfield, Taxi worked for the former Cornell Dublier, United State Gypsum Co. and Kentile Floors all located in South Plainfield. He served in the U.S.Army during WWII and is a member of the South Plainfield VFW Post 6763. Taxi, a well known and well liked man, had a gentle soul and was always wearing a smile. He enjoyed playing golf and walking around Spring Lake Park. He is pre-deceased by his daughter Melinda Pornovetz who died in 2003, a sister and 5 brothers. Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years Georgia, his adoring children; Debra Schroeder and her husband Alfie of South Plainfield, Diane Pornovetz and Eugene Cooper of Pt. Pleasant, Donna Wilson and her husband Bill also of Pt. Pleasant, Georgia Fenimore and her husband Chris of Hillsborough and his son George Pornovetz and his wife Chris of Port Orange, Florida, his sister Ann Deering of Jamesburg, 2 brothers; James and Charles both of South Plainfield and 8 adoring grandchildren; Stephanis Maher, Alyssa Marin, Brian and Kyle Wilson. Janelle, Chelsea and Nicholas Pornvetz and Jessica Fenimore. Also surviving are his 3 loving great granddaughters; Isabelle and Mya Marin and Ava Maher. Funerals Services will be held on Monday, December 22, 2008 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield Entombment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2008 from 2-6 PM in the funeral home.
