Elvira "Vira" Wyckoff Former South Plainfield Resident Shrewsbury, NJ - Elvira "Vira" (Balsamello) Wyckoff, 84, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Sycamore Assisted Living in Shrewsbury. Vira was born in Bernards Township and moved to South Plainfield with her husband Frank in 1945. She resided in South Plainfield for sixty years before settling to Shrewsbury in 2004. In her early years, Vira loved fashion and design and as a talented artist and painter, she was proud of the awards she won for her charcoal drawings and oil paintings. She enjoyed painting portraits of her family and her husband Frank's hunting dogs. Married for sixty-five years, she was a committed wife and devoted mother to her family. A quick smile with a ready wit, she loved singing while her brothers and father played their guitars and mandolins. Vira entertained her family and friends while playing the organ for many years. Vira retired from Lockheed Electronics in Watchung where she was employed as executive secretary. She was an original former member of The First Baptist Church in South Plainfield. She is predeceased by her parents James and Jennie and brother Vincent Balsamello. Vira is survived by; her husband Franklin Wyckoff, her sons and daughter-in-laws Franklin and Christine Wyckoff of Middletown and Thomas and Paddy Wyckoff of South Plainfield, her grandchildren and their spouses; Jennifer and Brad Augusta of California, Robbie Gaydos of South Plainfield and Mary and Jay Hawkins of Flemington and by her great-grandchildren Holly, Erica and Steven and great-great grandson Dylan Hawkins all of Flemington. She is also survived by her brother Anthony Balsamello of Bernardsville. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ Entombment will be held at Clover Leaf Memorial Park in Woodbridge. Relatives and friends may attend the visitation in the funeral home on Thursday, June 10, 2008 from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Vira's name may be sent to SBHPCS, ATTN: C.W.6, 300 2nd Avenue, Long Branch, NJ 07740.
