Marion Louise Sachs
Member of the Daughters of American Revolution
Toms River - Marion Louise (Nicholas) Sachs, 97, died on January 4, 2007 at Paul Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood. She was the last survivor of 13 children born to Laura Richards and Robert Nicholas.
Marion was born in Mauch Chunk, Pa., on August 1, 1909, and was raised on East 34th St. in Bayonne. She attended Bayonne High School and Drake Business School. Mrs. Sachs married Albert Sachs on April 30, 1927 at Grace Lutheran Church in Bayonne. She was raised in Bayonne and lived in Jersey City, Pt. Pleasant Beach, South Plainfield, and Toms River. Marion was a homemaker for many years and then worked at Link Paper Co. in Englewood and Pt. Pleasant Hospital, before retiring at the age of 72.
Marion was an active member of the Central United Methodist Church in Pt. Pleasant Beach for many years and later a member at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in South Plainfield. At 97 years old, she was the eldest member of the Jersey Blue Chapter of the DAR - Daughters of American Revolution as well as a member of the St. Peter's Glorious Years Senior Group in Pt. Pleasant, the Central New Jersey Veterans Association, and AARP.
She is pre-deceased by her husband Albert Sachs who died in 1977, by an infant daughter (1929), her daughter Norma Jane Sachs (1936), 3 sons; Alfred W. (1981), Robert C. (1983), and Richard A. (1996), and 2 grandsons John Rhode III (1956) and Joseph E. Sachs (1988).
Surviving are 2 daughters; Barbara Pallister and her husband William of South Plainfield and Marilyn Recely and her husband Gregg of Toms River, her son Norman and his wife Joyce also of Toms River, and daughter-in-law Carole Sachs of Rutherford. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter.
Marion was a loving mother and grandmother with a wonderful sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Cremation was private.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 11:00AM at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, South Plainfield.
Arrangements are under the direction of the McCriskin Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield.
