John R. Check South Plainfield - John R. Check, 89, died on Friday, September 24, 2010 at JFK Medical Center in Edison Born and raised in Perth Amboy, John attended both Rutgers and Rider Universities earning a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. John was a career man working for Cheveron Oil for nearly 35 years as an accountant. He resided in Houston, TX and Los Angeles before retiring to Clearwater, FL. Mr. Check lived in South Plainfield for the past nine years. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII and was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant. In addition, Mr. Check enjoyed gardening and playing cards but more importantly he loved to sit and relax by the bay. He is predeceased by 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Surviving are his sister Ann Check of South Plainfield, 2 nieces; Carol Szczesny of FL. and Lois Chismar of Brick and 6 nephews; Anton Check of Flemington, Ronald Brinkerhoff of Pittstown, John Ditski of South Plainfield, Gerald McCarthy of Lakewood, Michael McCarthy of Old Bridge and Thomas McCarthy of PA. Also surviving are several great nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2010 from 1-4 PM in the funeral home.
