World War II 18th Airborne Veteran
Dominick W. Zampello, son of Anthony and Antoinette [Santonastaso] Zampello, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 8th, 2013 at the age of 86, of pancreatic cancer.
Born in Plainfield, NJ on August 1st, 1926, he was a lifelong resident and retired as Assistant Superintendent of the Plainfield Public Works Department.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Sally [Capobianco] Zampello, and his sister, Mary [Zampella] Howell.
He leaves his brother, Michael J. Zampello and his wife Judy [Shipley] Zampello in Bradenton, Florida; his daughter, Donna M. [Zampello] Peel with her sons Christopher J and Daniel W Peel and their close friends, Amanda and Megan Cerini; his son, Anthony Zampello of Burrillville, RI with his wife of 36 years, Renee [Doyle] and their sons, David-Anthony D. Zampello with his girlfriend Kerri Carle (who are expecting their first child in July), and Benjamin D. Zampello with his wife Melissa A. [Henault] Zampello and their daughter, 17 month old Sophia A. Zampello. Dominick also leaves many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. In addition, he leaves his brother-in-law and close, lifelong friend, William Howell in Pennsylvania.
Dominick served valiantly in World War II in the Army 18th Airborne Corps in France. He was a gliderman and in the Military Police. He earned an American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Glider Badge. He was a lifetime member of the North Jersey Chapter of the 82nd Airborne.
In addition to his 37 years of service to the city of Plainfield in the Shade Tree Department and Public Works Department [retired 1992], he was a lifetime member of the International Molders Union and a member of Council #8 of Civil Service.
While flowers are acceptable, any donations to support our military personnel at home or abroad would be greatly appreciated.
