John A. "Butch" Gallagher South Plainfield - John A. "Butch" Gallagher, 70, died Tuesday September, 25, 2012 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born and raised in West Orange, he was a graduate of the class of 1960. John served in the United States Army from 1961-1963 and attended Rutgers University, majoring in Accounting. He had resided in East Orange of ten years, before settling to South Plainfield in 1976. Before retirement in 2009 from Fisher Scientific in Somerville where he worked as a warehouseman, John worked in the accounting department of Sweda International of Orange, NJ. John is a former member of the South Plainfield Elks. He enjoyed fresh water fishing, coaching softball and volunteering his time. John was very proud of his Irish heritage and was involvement with several Irish organizations. Surviving are his loving wife; Nina (nee Razzo), a daughter; Lisa Gallagher, two sons; John and his wife Monica and Patrick and his wife Kristina, a brother; Michael and his mother in law; Phyllis Razzo. He is also survived by his five beloved grandchildren; Nicholas, Matthew, Ryan, Daniel and Kiera. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 beginning at 9:15 AM in McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Cremation will follow privately. Visiting hours for family and friends are Friday, September 28, 2012 from 1-4 PM and 6-9 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Somerset Medical Center Foundation for the Steeple Chase Cancer Center, 110 Rehill Avenue, Somerville, NJ 08876-2958, or through the website, www.steeplechasecancercenter.com/steeplechase.
