Frank J. Sendzik South Plainfield - Frank J. Sendzik, 82, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born and raised in Old Forge, PA., Frank had resided in Atlantic County NJ for many years before settling to South Plainfield in 1986. A veteran of the US Army, Frank served during the Korean Conflict as a Corporal in the Artillery Division prior to his honorable discharge in 1954. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He retired from the Atlantic County Sheriff's Department after 25 years of services where he was working as the Deputy Sheriff. Frank's true passion was the love of music. He was a skilled Accordion player specializing in German and Polish Polka Music. He was a long time member of the "Happy Tones" where they could be found regularly playing at Kilmeyer's Pub in Staten Island. In addition, he was an active member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church serving as an usher and annually played his favorite tunes at the feast of St. Anthony. He was also a member of the South Plainfield Knights of Columbus Council #6203. Predeceased by his wife, Christine (Grabowski) who died in 2008, he is also predeceased by his four siblings, Florence Malecki, Margaret Vrable, Jean Grigalonas, and Jackie Sendzik. Surviving are his wife's children, David Wiater and his wife, Jill of High Point NC, Karen Leonardi and her husband Thomas of York, PA, and Lynnette Nagle and her husband Robert of Allamuchy, NJ. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Meaghan Philip, Stephen, Marissa, Timmy and Gracie. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, South Plainfield. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Burial Park Mausoleum, Piscataway. Family and friends may attend the visitation hours on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 120 Kosciusko Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
