Obituary of John F. Sideck

John F. Sideck Retired Postmaster, WWII Navy Veteran South Plainfield - John F. Sideck, 96, a lifelong resident of South Plainfield died on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Mr. Sideck was employed by the US Post Office in South Plainfield for 42 years retiring as postmaster in 1978. He served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bairoko CVE-115 in the Pacific prior to his honorable discharge. While in high school, John excelled in various sports and was awarded numerous letters in baseball, basketball and football. He was also an accomplished golfer, playing into his 90's. He was a charter member of the VFW Post # 6763 of South Plainfield, a member of DAV, the National Association of Postmasters, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and AARP. John is predeceased by his sister, Jean Krivka formerly of San Antonia TX and Helen Lorincz formerly of North Brunswick, NJ Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Ann M. (Veracco) Sideck, two sons and daughters-in-law; Jon and Harriet Sideck of South Plainfield, David and Jan Sideck of Camp Hill PA, and three grandchildren; Lesley Sideck of South Plainfield, Colleen Sideck and Mark Sideck of Camp Hill, PA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Family and friends may attend the visitation hours on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 4-8 PM in the funeral home.
